wear.

didn't you wear that yesterday?

t-shirt: super-old
shorts: old navy boyfriend jean cut-offs
belt: j.crew
hat: target
sandals: urban outfitters

sooo, yeah. this outfit is pretty much the same as the last outfit i posted.
but friday was a "work" day. that sounds much better than "lazy" day.
not that i know what a lazy day is, but if ever i were to have one, i would probably call it a work day. you know, cause it sounds better.

i got so caught up in my "work" that i forgot we were supposed to go to my parents' for dinner so i threw on half of yesterday's outfit and "mixed things up" by grabbing a new t-shirt from the laundry pile and chose different sandals. the hat served to hide nappy-mcnapperson hair and created a subtle shadow disguising the fact that i had no eye makeup on. (i hate putting on makeup when there are only a few hours left in the day. such a waste of time and product!)

but the major difference in friday's outfit versus thursday's outfit is.....this.
yep. i bit the bullet. or, rather, the brace.
it's something i've wanted to do for a long time and though, it's kind of a pain, i'm really glad i went through with it.

wear.

where my girls at?
this could also be titled: "where my gays at?" because i want your help, too. anyway... i have a job for you!
help me decide what to wear to my sister's graduation & celebration. it's a good excuse to dress up and i have three options topping my list.
whatever gets the most votes WINS!
obviously.

that is, if anyone actually reads this. and then actually votes. man, i'm going to feel so lame if no one votes. oh well. lame is my middle name. not really. it's michele. yes, with one L. i'm french. or rather, irish/english. but i took french. and used to live in canada. bet you didn't know that. okay, it's time to wrap up this little font & get back to the outfits.

look 1:

this might sound slutty, but i think this outfit would be cuter with a dash of cleavage. it's borderline matronly. but i do loves me some pockets...

shrug: l.a. made
dress: j.crew
belt: j.crew
bangle: f21
shoes: bcbg

look 2:
this dress is actually about 5 inches longer than it appears in the picture. a really unflattering length for me. yes, i have it hiked up into my belt. see it now? anyway, i think the beauty of the shoe and necklace distract from the ghetto hem-job.

dress: tj maxx
shoes: franco sarto
(the ones mr.a bought me on our trip!)
belt: j.crew
necklace: a gift

look 3:
okay, this one looks a little wonky in the picture, but i promise it's cute. and please note the two shoe options. yes, those are options. the one on the left is an old standby, the one on the right is new and comfy. like the jogging shoe of heels.

dress: gap
necklace: a gift
belt: thrifted banana republic
shoe 1: kenzie
shoe 2: ciao bella, tj maxx

so girls and gays, what's it gonna be...
1, 2 or 3?

do.

day three, part two: the wedding!

the wedding was held at a charming little chapel. it was once a lighthouse. unfortunately, i don't have pictures because we thought we were late.
(but we weren't. hurray for weddings that don't start on time!)
the ceremony was beautiful. my favorite part was watching jon-boy's expression as he saw his bride walk towards him.  i've never seen that look on his face before. i've never seen tears in his eyes either!
whew... that was a doozie.

after the ceremony, we drove up to astoria, washington for the reception. (astoria is famous for fine films such as: goonies, free willy, and kindergarten cop. watch those again and you'll see where we spent our weekend!)
the reception was held in the loft of a renovated warehouse called the red building.
it overlooks the columbia river.
in the lower level there is a chic wine bar (behind mr.a)...

and an art gallery...
jon-boy works for columbia river coffee roasters. so there was a full-service coffee-bar with skilled baristas (pictured in the background of the photo below). it was fun being able to order any drink you wanted...for freeeeee! plus, each guest was sent home with a package of a special roast created especially for jon and kolene.

this is shaun (above). he's sort-of a combination of william wallace and frodo baggins. (without frodo's sweetness. shaun is definitely not sweet. but he's funny and awesome.) the man has the feet of a hobbit; wide and thick and hairy. they're kind of amazing.
lucky for shaun, tara is funny, awesome and sweet. plus, she has a thing for hobbit feet.
she's totally out of his league.

okay, back to the reception.

during the requisite (boring unique and indulgent meaningful*) slideshow, tara and i entertained ourselves with more pictures...

after watching the sweet "first dance" i was in the mood to bust a move.

buuut, we were the only ones dancing so i quickly got it out of my system.
for dessert they had these amazing miniature cheesecakes with shortbread crust.

oh. my. wurd. they were delish.
there was raspberry, lemon, and caramel. and yes, we sampled them all.
i was so wrapped up in the delicousness, i lost my whits and forgot to take a picture. sorry.

we had a fantastic time at the wedding.
it was great to see some of our old friends and teachers.
and we had a blast with these two...

we love you guys!!!

the whole trip was amazing. i hope i captured how wonderful it was in these posts. it was like a second honeymoon. i'm so thankful mr.a & i got the chance to just. be. together.
if you're married, please do something like this for yourselves.
it's totally worth it. and by "worth it" i mean:
being away from the stress of real life is great for your sex life! oops, tmi.
sorry!

the end.

*okay, i know i'm a scrooge about wedding slideshows. maybe i'm the only person in the world that doesn't like them. i just think they cause way too much pre-wedding stress, technical difficulties, and are generally waaaay too long. i encourage all wedding planners to come up with a new way to show off the couple.

wear.

after our romantic stroll on the beach, mr.a went to a barber shop and i went to the shoe shop next door. it was cuuuute. and the owner offered me a job! if only we could support a family on shoe sales....

anyway, we went back to the hotel to get ready for the big event.
i wore the dress that mr.a picked out for me...
it's a knit jersey and i love it because it could easily go from day-to-evening and back again with the right accessories. i love this fuschia-color. i think it's one of those universally flattering colors.
i loaded up with black & gold accessories...
and wore these strappy wedges that were begging to be danced in...

dress: michael stars
blazer: gap (like 6 years ago...)
belt: j.crew
bangles: f21, j.crew
earrings: banana republic
watch: la mer
shoes: bcbgeneration

i have to say, i felt fantastic.
there's just something about a dress & heels, huh? well, at least for me there is.
plus, this dress is totally "forgiving" and was as comfy as pj's.
since i don't often have reason to go all out, this was really fun for me.
mr.a looked studly in his wedding attire as well...
shirt: j.crew
vest: j.crew
belt: target
jeans: diesel
boots: vintage

it seems like anytime we attend a wedding at home, we're always rallying the girls, rushing out the door. i'm usually doing my makeup, writing the card, and hiking up my spanx in the car.
we sit through ceremony making sure the baby doesn't make a peep and the toddler is occupied by silent toys and snacks.
then, we get to the reception and i hike up my dress and balance on the toilet to nurse quinn and mr.a tries to keep piper's fingers out of the wedding cake.
we balance four plates in the buffet line and try to keep from knocking over any candles.
but not this time!
this time, we were relaxed from beginning to end.
we had no obligations, no children, no stress.
we enjoyed every minute.
and, if i do say so myself, we looked pretty good doing it!

do.

day three, part one: the rock.
sunday was our last day.
we slept in, again, and after another amazing breakfast at the lazy susan (no pictures, just devouring), we walked down to haystack rock. it was a beautiful morning and there were lots of families, couples, and dogs to watch.
but we mostly watched each other.

and smooched each other...
remember, this is where we had our very first kiss!

it was very romantical.
and such a relaxing way to spend our last morning in cannon beach.

wear.

day two: part two.
i basically wore the same outfit the whole time we were gone with only slight variation. this is essentially what i packed (except for wedding clothes):
i'm usually a terrible packer, but this time everything was mix & matchable and i wore every item in my suitcase at least twice. scarves are the best accessory to pack because they totally change up an outfit but take up zero space in your suitcase. (to be a really smart packer, shove them in your shoes!)
notice there are no socks on there. i forgot to pack any and had to borrow mr.a's.
this is what i wore on day two:
henley: alternative apparel
scarf: kohl's
t-shirt: target*
jeans: paige
boots: bitten
watch: la mer

*oops! not included on my packing list above. this an awesome slub t-shirt found in the pajama dept. of target. they're that gillian o'malley brand. love 'em. and they cost about $20 less than j.crew's. (which i also love but can't always justify.)

later, i changed into the gold-striped top from j.crew, leopard print scarf, and gold flats for the rehearsal dinner. captured only in this dorky picture:
it was kind of nice not having so many options!
maybe i should pack a suitcase every week.
or.... just clean out my closet.

do.

day two: part one.
it was almost as good as day one. actually, it was just as good, in different ways. we slept in again (you may begin to see a pattern here), and went to breakfast at my other favorite spot: the lazy susan.
since i was overwhelmed by the options, we decided to order both of their daily specials and trade half-way.
i started with the spinach/bacon/swiss omelette...
it was packed with fresh spinach (no limpy, frozen stuff here) and crispy, peppered bacon.
oh man. it was so good.
and i ended in oatmeal waffle heaven...
this was seriously one of the best breakfasts i've ever had. the waffle was topped with strawberries, bananas, and housemade yogurt. i'm not a big syrup person, but they had this orange syrup that was so light and delicious. oh my. it was so crazy good. all the flavors combined perfectly.
i mourned my last bite.
after trying to capture the beauty of this tree, we headed down the coast to short sands beach. aka: shorty's. for some reason i didn't take any pictures on the hike down there. you walk through this incredible forest that makes you feel like a hobit. there are massive trees and some have fallen over exposing their enourmous root systems. it's so green and lush and everything is dripping. there's a stream that you walk along that eventually flows out into the ocean. it is just gorgeous.
our great friends, shaun and tara (from bellingham, wa) were also in town for the wedding. they called just as we were getting to shorty's and we were so excited to meet up with them. we hadn't seen them in about 4 years and they're just one of those couples we both get along with really well. shaun braved the surf with a ton of other people that day. he said the waves weren't that great, but he still looked pretty b.a. to me. shorty's is a great place to watch other people surf and wish you were that cool.
by the way... remember blue crush? try girl crush. i totally wanted to be a surfer chick after that. kate bosworth was so rad. now she could probably use a cheeseburger or 8, but she's so gorgeous and she has those two-different-colored eyes like some kinda hot huskie. awesome.
after shaun got tired of being wasted by the waves, we headed back to bill's tavern for fish/chips & pints.
shaun and tara had some weddingly duties, so we parted ways for a few hours but met back up at our hotel to get ready for the rehearsal. shaun was a groomsmen so he had to be at the rehearsal the whole time. mr.a, tara, and i helped set up for the dinner. once that was done we entertained ourselves taking dorky pictures.

in case you're new around here: mr.a is deploying to his spot on the map in about 8 weeks. i will remain on my spot on the map. hence, our frowny faces.
when that got old (or depressing...) we decided to explore a little bit. we came upon this awesome dive bar. all the patrons were crusty old guys and we definitely received a once-over when we walked in. but, it was fun to hang out with the locals and by the end, we had them in a congo line singing copa cabana.
okay, not really. but i did start talking to the guy next to me and he was really nice. crusty and nice.

we got back to the rehearsal just in time for dinner.
we were some of the last people through the line and it was a good thing because apparently tara had over-loaded her plate (just kidding. they were flimsy. i guess.) and her whole plate gave way and dumped into the pan of pulled pork! i could not stop laughing as i helped her scoop her broccoli-pork-fruit-chips mixture back onto her plate.
after dinner they had tillamook ice cream cones. holy cow, they were good. i had marionberry pie ice cream in mine. oh my word. so, so good. i had two. (don't tell my mom.)
the night ended with a bon-fire on the beach.
then we walked back to our hotel and collapsed into bed.

stay tuned for day two: part two!

wear.

i'm not talking to you.
or rather, i'm all talked out. but this is what i wore today:

t-shirt: j.crew
boyfriend shorts:  these old navy jeans, cut-off
belt: gap (from a million years ago)
sandals: old navy
hat: target
necklace: my new/old "family" necklace.*

*i got the "B" and the bee charm on our trip.
the "p" i've had for a while and then there's mr.a's dog-tag.
i don't feel too guilty about leaving out quinn because the p looks like a q when i look in the mirror :). but i'd still like to get quinn a charm of her own. and maybe a smaller one for mr.a.
i like hers, hers, and hers.
