think.

housekeeping.
`
i've been feeling a little overwhelmed lately. i don't deal well with overwhelmed. i tend to shut-down. avoid. distract. eat. drink. shop.
anything but deal.

right now it's the state of my house that i'm overwhelmed by. i've always hated cleaning, but it's really depressing doing something you hate, only to have it completely undone by two little monsters darlings. it's like the hades of suburban mythology. i've been banished to a hell where i toil away at something i despise, and each day the toiling begins again.
every couple of months i consider burning the house down and starting over. since i'm not clever enough to get away with arson,  a cleaning lady is probably a better option. but i feel guilty paying someone to do something i am capable of doing myself. what do you guys think? should i cancel my cable & get a cleaning lady instead???

i need hestia to save me from this misery.

  1. Oh my gracious. I would totally cancel cable for a cleaning lady. Since we don't have cable than that isn't an option...but if it was?? I would be all over it!!!

  2. oh boy, I am the same way... I hate cleaning and it makes me hate it even more when, same as you, the kids just destroy it again. I try to give myself "rewards" - like cleaning the house would get me a pedicure or a new shirt or necklace or bag of candy or something. That's how we get our kids to do stuff (err, at least I do!) - so why not rewards for the mom too!

  3. Totally worth it...we don't have cable and have far too much TV to watch as it is! WAY WORTH IT to hire a cleaning lady!

  6. Seriously some of the best money spent. I have someone come twice a month. Use a service called the maids...check them out at www.maids.com My husband didn't think it was possible to impress me when it comes to cleaning and these people BLOW my mind everytime! Well worth it. Life is too short to waste time on things we don't love. Also, if you decide not to use a cleaning service, have you ever checked out www.flylady.net

  8. YES, hire a cleaning lady! You can't do it all Bethany. So do what you can do and do it well (i.e. shopping!) and let the cleaning lady do the rest!!! You are in our prayers everyday. You are doing an amazing job!

  9. If you have the money, do it. Sure, you COULD do it yourself, but if you don't have to, why do it? Plus, it would free up some time to do other things that you love to do, and really, isn't that what life is all about?

  10. I definitely say hire a cleaning lady!! It is sooo totally worth every penny! I always feel bad when she comes and cleans like I should be doing it myself, but truthfully the little spare time I get, I'd rather be playing with my kiddies!! Do it once and you'll be hooked!! :)

  11. Getting a cleaner was by far and away one of the best things I ever did. I know I pay someone to do something I could do myself, but the pleasure of coming home from work to a clean house and pile of ironing done is bliss. It's worth every penny. It gives me more time with my man and less time with the hoover - that's a win win sitution if ever I saw one!
