do.

but it didn't end there.
we didn't get into portland until about 10 p.m. (which was midnight, our time.) we were both pretty exhausted. we picked up our rental car and had an hour & a half drive out to the coast. i was hungry and ready to just get to our hotel.
luckily, i'd planned ahead and had some snacks packed for us.
(snack-packs, if you will.)
we finally got to our hotel (after driving around in circles for a while) and having spent the day apart from quinn, i was seriously in need of a pump session. i remembered to grab my pump last minute, before we rushed out the door. unfortunately, i hadn't double-checked my pump and there was a small, but vital, part missing. though i enjoyed my pam anderson moment, i was desperate for relief and could not wait until morning to try and replace this part. this tiny piece of rubber provides suction, but also releases into the attached bottle when filled with milk. luckily, mr.a is a near-genius.
key word: near.
he macgruber'd the part using a piece of plastic retrieved from the plastic-bagged cups they leave in your room. he had to hold this round piece of plastic over the holes and then release it in order to allow the milk to pour into the cup below. it worked pretty well, until all of a sudden milk backed up in the pump and exploded all over us! yeah, it was pretty gross. and sticky. and hilarious. and totally macgruber-esque. it continued that way for the next 20 minutes or so...
pumpumpumpexplode!pumpumpumpexplode!
it took us forever but we were cracking up. i wish you could've seen it. but...i'm glad you didn't. i finally had some relief and in the morning we found a replacement part at a baby consignment shop for $5. much better than replacing the entire pump for $50.

i forgot to mention: our room was amazing. literally, right on the beach. walked right out onto sand. it had a kitchenette and fireplace. it was perfect.

  1. oh my gosh. that's the funniest thing ever. EVER.

i'm just curious why after a few explosions, he didn't learn his lesson? i guess that's why he's macgruber, right?

    "15 seconds, Macgruber!"
